What to do against mosquitoes in the house?

Mosquitoes can seriously disrupt your sleep. When you are finally sleeping, you are suddenly woken by buzzing. Of course, you want to get rid of that annoying mosquito as soon as possible. But how do you ensure that mosquitoes no longer bother you in the house? We are happy to give you some tips for that!

A bed canopy above your bed

If you have problems with mosquitoes in your bedroom, the bed canopy is the perfect invention that ensures that you no longer wake up from buzzing or by mosquitoes trying to bite. A bed canopy has a fine-mesh net, which means insects cannot fly through. It is essential to mention that a mosquito net must be large enough and fall over your bed. If a bed canopy is too short or not wide enough, mosquitoes can still fly under it or pierce you through the net. Besides that, a bed canopy is super effective against mosquitoes; it is also a stylish piece in your interior!

A screen for the windows

Keeping windows shut keeps mosquitoes out effective; unfortunately, this is less pleasant for you, as there is no fresh air entering the house. A screen in front of the window is an effective solution. Mosquitoes can’t fly in, and you can still leave your windows open. You can choose a fixed screen or a screen that you click into the window—depending on having the screens in place all year round or removing them at the end of the season.

Fan

Mosquitoes are not strong fliers. That is why a fan can keep these insects at a reasonable distance. In addition, mosquitoes are attracted to your body odour, body heat and carbon dioxide from your breath. If you put a fan in the bedroom while sleeping, the mosquito will have more trouble finding you due to the air movement in the room. This way you can sleep soundly again! The only downside of having a fan in your room is the noise. Some people find it harder to fall asleep with a fan on. That is why we recommend that you go for a silent version. On the other hand, an air conditioner is often quieter and can also be used to keep mosquitoes away. Make sure that the air conditioner blows enough air.

Insect lamp

An insect lamp is another effective way to keep mosquitoes out of your home. For example, you can place this lamp in the front garden or backyard. The insect lamp has blue UV lighting, attracting mosquitoes and other insects. On the inside of the light is a high-voltage grid, against which the mosquitoes fly. You can also put the lamp indoors. You might think that mosquitoes are attracted to standard lighting, but this is a myth. If you want to attract mosquitoes, it is better to use an insect lamp.

Avoid standing water

Mosquitoes lay eggs in stagnant freshwater. Do you have a pond, or do you live next to a ditch? Then there is a high chance that you will have to deal with many mosquitoes in your house. Also, think of water in pots or dishes after rainfall or a layer of water in the crawl space. Therefore, it is essential to ensure that mosquitoes have as little chance to lay their eggs in the water. For example, you can stretch a tarp over the pond or a net that the mosquitoes cannot get through. And let water in the gutter and pots wash away as much as possible. Do you have a layer of water in the crawl space under your house? Then pour some paraffin oil into the crawl space. Because of the oil layer on the water, mosquitoes can no longer lay eggs.
